OK, so today, I decided to try out the new coffee craze that is happening on social media. Dalgona Coffee. I normally wouldn’t, but its been a while since I have had any form of overpriced latte or cappuccino coffee from one of the chains since they all shut down for the lockdown here in the UK. This morning, I decided this ‘frothy coffee’ would probably do the trick. For this you need
1 tablespoon of instant coffee
1 tablespoon of Sugar (i used Demerara)
1 tablespoon boiling water
Now, if you have incredibly strong arms and a hand whisk you could probably do this by hand, but I placed all the ingredients into my stand mixer bowl, attached the whisk and put it on high.
The magic that happens………eventually………… is the coffee, sugar and water increases in volume and becomes pale and frothy. It does, but it took my electric Kenwood on the highest setting ….. 8 minutes to achieve this. I don’t know how or why this works, but it does.
To serve, you can have cold or hot, we tried both ways by heating milk and putting a few spoons of coffee froth on top, and cold, in a glass. It is said that the froth lasts just enough to get a good instagram picture, ours lasted a good few minutes.

It’s a strong punchy coffee hit, but I am not sure I would go though all that effort and washing up to do another one. Though it was good with a jam tart!
Let me know if you try it and how it turns out.
